· Buraun-san to okusan wa Amerika de Nihon-go no benkyō o shite imashita. Soshite kyō Buraun-san wa Amerika no Satō-sensei ni Nihon-go de tegami o kakimashita.
Satō-sensei, o-genki desu ka.
Tōkyō wa totemo atsui desu ga, watashi-tachi wa genki desu. Watashi wa mainichi chikatetsu de kaisha ni ikimasu. Uchi kara kaisha made 20-pun gurai desu. Tōkyō no chikatetsu wa benri desu ga, asa 8-ji goro kara 9-ji goro made to gogo 5-ji goro kara 6-ji han goro made, totemo konde imasu. Shūmatsu ni wa doraibu o shitai desu ga, watashi-tachi wa kuruma ga arimasen kara, densha de omoshiroi tokoro ni ikimasu.
Shigoto wa totemo isogashii desu. Senshū Ōsaka to Kyōto no shisha ni ikimashita. Kyōto no kaigi no ato de chiisai o-tera ni ikimashita. Shizuka deshita. Niwa gara kirei deshita. Hoka no o-tera mo mitakatta desu ga, jikan ga arimasendeshita. Zannen deshita.
Kanai wa Nihon-jin no tomodachi ya Amerika-jin no tomodachi to chiisai benkyō no gurūpu o tsukurimashita. Gurupu no hito wa maitsuki 15-nichi ni ate, Nihon to Amerika no shakai ya bunka ya kangaekata ya keizai ya seiji ni tsuite hanashi o shimasu.
Kanai wa jikan ga arimasu kara, iroirona benkyō o shite imasu. Soshite Nihon-jin no tomodachi ga takusan arimasu. Kanai wa Nihon-go ga jōzu desu. Kanji mo yomimasu. Saikin kanai wa maiasa Nihon-go no benkyō o shite imasu. Watashi wa ka-yōbi ni dake Nihon-go no benkyō o shite imasu. Raigetsu kara kin-yōbi ni mo shita desu. Ima no tekisuto wa mō sugu owarimasu kara, raigetsu kara atarashii no o tsukaimasu. Watashi wa atarashii tekisuto o tanoshimi ni shite imasu.
Dewa mata tegami o kakimasu.
Mina-sama ni dōzo yoroshiku. O-genki de. Sayōnara.

· Mr. And Mrs. Brown studied Japanese in America. And today, Mr. Brown wrote a letter in Japanese to their teacher in America, Sato Sensei.
Dear Sato Sensei,
How are you? It is very hot in Tokyo, but we are well.
I go to my office every day by subway. It takes (literally is) about 20 minutes from my house to the office. Tokyo subways are convenient, but they are very crowded from about 8:00 in the morning til about 9:00 and from about 5:00 in the afternoon til about 6:30. On weekends, we’d like to go driving, but since we don’t have a car, we visit interesting places by train.
I’m very busy with work. I visited our Osaka and Kyoto branches last week. After a meeting in Kyoto I went to a small temple. It was quiet and the garden was beautiful. I wanted to see other temples, but sorry to say, did not have time.
My wife has formed a small study group with Japanese and American friends. The people in the group meet on the 15th of each month and talk about Japanese and American community life and social conditions, culture, ways of thinking, economy, politics, etc.
My wife has time, so she is studying various things. And she has many Japanese friends. My wife’s Japanese is good. She reads kanji too. Nowadays, my wife has a Japanese lesson every morning. I have a Japanese lesson only on Tuesday. From next month, I want to have one on Friday too. I’ll soon finish my present textbook, so I will use a new one from next month. I am looking forward to the new textbook. I’ll write a letter again (soon).
